Managing Access to Care for People Living with Disabilities

Dr. Clive Friedman will discuss how the proposed RCDSO standard of care, “Managing New Patient Requests,” together with the RCDSO Professionalism Standard, can help improve access to dental care for people living with disabilities. This session will highlight some of the steps the RCDSO has taken to help providers acquire the skill sets that will help improve the ability of the oral health team to provide appropriate care. It will also focus briefly on a key aspect of patient-centred care: the importance of effective communication and active listening.
Bio: Dr. Clive Friedman, a globally recognized pediatric dentist, brings decades of expertise in treating individuals with disabilities to the numerous roles he continues to be active in. With a specialty in pediatric dentistry and a passion for early intervention and behavioral management, Dr. Friedman has pioneered programs like Patient Guided Sensory Integration for individuals with autism. His leadership extends to serving as president of several international disability and oral health organizations, and he continues to drive innovation in care for children through his work with global health initiatives ,educational programs and activities in organizational dentistry and research in behaviour , airway and soothers. More recently he has been on the RCDSO committee developing the Standard of practice -Managing new Patient Requests as well as the new Professionalism Document.
