Andrew Drummond will give a presentation on Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), the policy intent behind it, common misperceptions on what it does and doesn't do, and how practitioners can improve their practices by building their understanding of patient-centred care.
Bio: Andrew Drummond is Director of Health Policy at the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. He and his team develop guidance related to privacy and patient information access for Ontario's health sector, in addition to providing advice to government and to sector actors and directly regulating a number of organizations. Prior to joining the IPC in 2022, Andrew was a Manager and Policy advisor at the Ministry of Health's Information Management Strategy and Policy Branch, where he worked primarily on PHIPA and its regulations. He has also held a number of administrative positions at the University of Toronto and the University of Alberta. He holds a BA (Hons) and MA, both from the University of Alberta.
